Frequently Asked Questions

What can I get powder coated?

Anything from car rims to bumpers and suspension, aircraft and boat parts, furniture (especially outdoor), firearms, ATV and motorcycle parts… the list goes on. If it’s made of metal and can fit in our oven—we can powder coat it.

How long does it take to repair rims?

We can get most wheel repair jobs done in 2-3 days if they don’t require paint. Expect longer turnaround times (2–3 weeks) for wheel customization and powder coating or paint jobs.

What’s included in rim customization?

Rim customization includes custom powder coating or painting your alloy or steel wheels, rim repair (if necessary), and tire rotating and rebalancing.

What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a process where a dry, colored powder is electrostatically sprayed onto a metal surface, then is baked (or “cured”) at high temperatures in a specialized oven. This type of coloring is miles more durable, versatile, and protective than paint (not to mention better-looking), and can be used on virtually any metal surface you can think of.

How does powder coating work?

First, we strip a wheel of its current paint, buff out any blemishes, then apply the powder with a special spray gun that guarantees a perfectly uniform layer of color. That coat is then baked onto the metal, cooled down, and followed up with a top coat (also known as the “finish”), which is then baked again to set it to the surface permanently.

What are the benefits of powder coating?

Powder coating is much more durable than a conventional paint job. Since powder coating is baked onto metal and then set with a top coat, it doesn’t chip, flake, or drip, and resists corrosion and extreme temperatures, allowing it to last as long as 15-20 years. If you powder coat car wheels, it can also help improve their performance, since the baked-on thermoset powder adds an extra layer of structural integrity—especially if applied to a wheel that’s just been repaired.

How much does fixing a wheel cost as opposed to just getting new ones?

Fixing a wheel comes out to about half the price of buying a new one. When you factor in shipping costs to Alaska and market premiums on aftermarket wheels, the price tag of wheel replacements is a lot higher than you’d think.

Do you do oil changes or tire rotations?

Nope. If we customize or fix your wheels we’ll rotate your tires as a courtesy, but it’s not something we offer as a standalone service.

Do you paint or only powder coat?

We do both. While we recommend powder coating over painting in most cases, some wheels can only handle regular paint — in which case we’re just as happy to apply a fresh coat for you.

Do you do mechanical or bodywork?

Mechanical work isn’t in our wheelhouse, but we’re happy to refer you to our local partners for all your non-wheel or powder coating needs:
